What do people do?

Social Explorer consolidates the 23 occupational categories into 13. While I was not successful in creating a dynamic scatterplot. Here are some interesting results.

• Women were employed more in 6 of 13 occupational categories than men, with complete dominance in 4 categories: Professional and related; Healthcare support; Personal care services; and Office and administrative support.
• Similarly, men were employed more in 7 of 13 categories than women, with complete dominance in 4 categories: Protective services; Construction, extraction, and maintenance; production; and transportation and material moving.
• DC (District of Columbia) skewed the data more than imaginable. DC ranked highest and lowest per sex for several categories.
  

  Lowest (men) - building and grounds; construction & extraction; farming/fishing/forestry; production; sales and related; transportation & moving. Highest (men) - management, business & finance; professional & related.

  Lowest (women) - Construction & extraction; farming/fishing/forestry (12-way tie for last); food prep & serving; healthcare support; office & admin support; personal care & service; production; sales & related; transportation & moving. Highest (women) - Management, business & finance; professional & related; and protective service

Conclusion - While there has been more inclusion for women in traditionally male dominated fields, overall several occupational categories remain largely segregated. Women occupy most positions in the service or support industry, and men occupy most positions in labor and trade.
